Greenpeace Launches Cyberactivist Centre

The number of Greenpeace cyberactivists has been growing rapidly over the last year: we now have about 50,000 people in more than 100 countries who have agreed to help out our campaigns over the Internet through letter writing, research, and downloading action kits.

We have created a global gathering place for our cyberactivists at:

http://cybercentre.greenpeace.org/t/s

This is a "beta" version of the Greenpeace Cyberactivist Community. It has a few bugs and is missing a few features. It is also currently only available in English, although we hope to change this soon.

Nevertheless, there is already plenty to do. You can participate in a range of cyberactions on issues ranging from whales to Canadian forests to toxic chemicals in India. You can read and discuss the latest news, create your own personal home page, and securely contact other cyberactivists without having to reveal your e-mail address.

If you visit the site in the next few days, you may find it still a bit empty and quiet - like a new house with only half the furniture moved in. But we hope that you will join us in helping to make this site one of the most active centres for environmental campaigning on the Internet.

Over the next few weeks and months, we hope that many of you will find a place in our new Community. We will also soon be moving the current e-mail list from our Majordomo server to a new, much more flexible database system that will be integrated into the Cyberactivist Centre and make it much easier for you to subscribe, unsubscribe and change your options for our cyberactivist e-mail alerts. We will do our best to minimize disruption and avoid duplicate e-mail messages. However, we ask for your patience during this transition period.

See you over at http://cybercentre.greenpeace.org/t/s !
