Investigation
Findings on Incident of 20 October When IDF Bus Mistakenly
Entered Palestinian Controlled Territory (Area A)
On 20
October, during the afternoon, an IDF bus transporting
soldiers lost its way and mistakenly entered the town of Tul
Karem (Area A, under Palestinian security control).
Palestinian jeeps intercepted and blocked the bus at the
entrance to Tul Karem, and an armed Palestinian mob
surrounded the vehicle and opened fire. An IDF soldier and a
Palestinian policeman were wounded from the shooting.
The company commander managed to rescue the force, and drive back to the area of the Jewish settlement of Shavei Shomron. During the return trip, shots were fired at the force but the force did not manage to identify their source. The shots wounded six soldiers and a civilian - the driver.
An
investigation held by the commander of the Golani brigade,
found faults in the preparation of the soldiers transport
mission, and in the performance of the commanders. Due to
these issues the brigade commander recommended that the
company commander and the company sergeant be removed from
their position. The three soldiers have been suspended until
their case is reviewed.
It should be noted that six
rifles were taken from the soldiers after a struggle.
The company commander did not open fire when the force
was held as he understood the Palestinian policemen did not
intend to enter an armed conflict and he did not want to
initiate one.
The IDF Calls the Palestinian Authority
to Aroid Sending children to Confrontations

recent weeks.
