World Leader In Tobacco Dependence Therapies Joins With Other Organizations To Reduce Tobacco Use
CHICAGO, Aug. 7 RNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Pharmacia Corporation, a world leader in the development of tobacco dependence therapies, is a primary patron at the 11th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health, an international summit of more than 4,000 leaders in medicine, health, government, business, advocacy, communications, and education. The goal of the six-day conference that begins here today is to galvanize all segments of society to reduce the use of tobacco around the world.
As a primary patron for the event, Pharmacia will work cooperatively with other pharmaceutical manufacturers to present a symposium on parental and adolescent smoking, and individually present another symposium that examines the progress in treatment with Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). The company will also underwrite the daily conference newsletter, support the conference's GLOBALink Cyber Center, and contribute $300,000 to the conference's scholarship program. Throughout the event, Pharmacia representatives from around the world will be at the company's exhibits to answer attendees' questions about the wide range of Pharmacia NRT products.
"As a company dedicated to the research, manufacture, and marketing of Nicotine Replacement Therapy products, we fully support the conference's mission to work collectively to increase awareness of the dangers of tobacco and decrease its use worldwide," said Stephen P. MacMillan, Sector Vice President, Global Specialty Operations, Pharmacia Corporation. "We believe that treatment is vital to reducing tobacco use, and that if treatment is to be successful, you must first understand the individual faces behind the smoke. To better meet these smokers' individual needs, we are continuing to develop and extend our therapies, both in the range of products offered and in their availability around the world." "The support provided by Pharmacia and other committed companies is invaluable in helping us achieve our goals," said Thomas Houston, M.D., co-chair, Executive Committee, World Conference on Tobacco OR Health. "Their combined resources enable us to strengthen and expand our global leadership to increase the number of organizations and individuals engaged in the fight against tobacco. Collectively, we can promote the societal, political, and economic changes necessary to reduce tobacco exposure and use worldwide."
