U.N. Press Briefing on East Timorese Refugees in West Timor with Filmmaker John Sayles
When: Thursday, July 13, 2000; 2 p.m.
Where: United Nations, Room S-226
Who: Participants in a delegation to the refugee camps in West Timor: John Sayles, novelist, screenwriter and filmmaker (Men with Guns, Lone Star, Matewan, and Passion Fish) and Loren Ryter, researcher in Indonesian politics.
What: John Sayles and Loren Ryter will report on the findings of a delegation coordinated by the East Timor Action Network/U.S. to the West Timor, East Timor and Jakarta, as well as offer an update on the situation of the refugees in West Timor and ways to resolve the situation.

The East Timor Action Network/ U.S. (ETAN) was founded following the November 1991 Santa Cruz massacre to support self-determination for East Timor. ETAN now woks for a democratic and peaceful transition to an independence. It has 28 local chapters throughout the U.S.
