1 Dead After More Fighting Near Solomons' Capital
In Solomon Islands one person has died after an outbreak of fighting between the two militant groups.
Pacific correspondent Kevin McQuillan reports, sporadic fighting is continuing just outside the capital, Honiara.
One member of the Malaitan Eagle Force has died and two are injured, one critically, following a shootout late yesterday, east of Honiara, near the government's Agricultural Research Station, and not far from Henderson International Airport.
Reports from Honiara say sporadic fighting the Eagle Force and the Isatabu Freedom Movement is continuing this morning. This latest outbreak follows a buildup of strength by both sides and a shootout at Gold Ridge last week.
Over the weekend, the headless corpse of a Guadalcanal man was found in downtown Honiara and it's believed only mediation by the Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia has prevented an even bigger outbreak of violence.
