1. (U) Chief of Training and Exercises of U.S. Army Europe in
Zagreb: The Chief of Training and Exercises of the U.S. Army Europe
was in Zagreb on February 3-5 to propose the concept of Exercise
IMMEDIATE RESPONSE '11 for which Croatia would be the host nation.
The exercise envisages a bilateral field training exercise with the
Minnesota National Guard and a concurrent multinational command post
exercise with Adriatic Charter members. Training will focus on
topics relevant to ongoing operations in Afghanistan. The Croatians
welcomed the proposal, as well as the idea that this could be the
first in a series of large field exercises in Croatia extending over
three fiscal years (2011-2013).
2. (U) Special Operations Command Europe and Croatian Air Force Hold
Conference on Helo Training: Special Operations Command Europe and
the Croatian Air Force held a Final Planning Conference on February
2-3 in Zadar for the upcoming Rotary Wing Training Event to be held
at the nearby Zadar-Zemunik Air Base during March - May, 2010. The
event will train Croatian and Hungarian helicopter crews in night
vision goggle-assisted flight. The Croatian crews require the
training for their ongoing deployment in KFOR, while the Hungarian
crews are preparing for a deployment to ISAF.
