SUBJECT: INITIAL ROK STEPS ON EMERGENCY RELIEF TO HAITI

1. (SBU) Following a January 4 inter-agency meeting, MOFAT's
Development Assistance Cooperation Division informed us that
the ROKG will deploy a 35-member disaster relief team to
Haiti, along with supplies for the team to distribute. MOFAT
expects the deployment and supplies to cost USD 1 million.
The team, consisting primarily of search/rescue and medical
workers, is tentatively scheduled to depart Korea on the
morning of January 15. The ROK Embassy in the Dominican
Republic will be coordinating the team's work in Haiti.

2. (SBU) MOFAT also informed us that at least one ROK citizen
remains missing in Haiti, a Mr. Kim In-song who was employed
by a U.S. company called Gloria Apparel.
