SUBJECT: CZECH REPUBLIC: NO SIGNIFICANT FORCED LABOR IN THE
PRODUCTION OF GOODS
REF: STATE 131997
1. (SBU) The Czech Republic (CR) does not have significant
incidence of forced labor or child labor in the production of
goods. We conducted interviews with relevant staff from the
Czech Labor and Social Affairs Ministry, the Interior
Ministry, the State Bureau for Labor Inspection, the police,
and several NGOs including: La Strada, which specializes in
trafficking and forced labor issues; Multicultural Center
Prague, which focuses on the rights of immigrants to the
Czech Republic; and the Blue School, a service provider for
foreign nationals. Our interviews revealed that Czech laws
prohibit forced labor and child labor in the production of
goods, and the government effectively enforces these laws.
2. (SBU) NGOs continue to express concern about ethnic
communities--especially the Vietnamese community--exploiting
their own countrymen's illegal status in the CR. However,
these concerns cannot be substantiated and are not reported
to Czech authorities.
