SUBJECT: UGANDAN PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION ON ELECTION OF BARACK OBAMA

1. This is a resolution adopted by the Parliament of the Republic
of Uganda with regard to the President-elect. A copy of the
original resolution is being transmitted to the Department via
diplomatic pouch under Registration
No. 1509241.

2. Begin text:

A resolution of Parliament on the election of Senator Barack Obama
as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Whereas Government has learnt with pleasure, the election of Senator
Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America
which occurred on 4th November 2008.

Noting that the election of Senator Barack Obama as the 1st
African-American President of the United States of America is
historical and gives testimony to the vision and maturity of the
American people and indeed the entire human race.

Further Noting that there is attachment of the people of Africa and
East Africa in particular to the
President-Elect,

Hoping that the election of Senator Obama to the Presidency of the
United States of America will be a basis for change world wide and
significantly to the efforts to help create a better life.

Further noting that Africa's Social, Economic transformation will
continue to receive greater attention under the Obama
Administration.

Now therefore be it resolved by this Parliament as follows:

That the Government, the Parliament and the people of the Republic
of Uganda congratulate Senator Barack Obama on his election as the
44th President of the United States of America.

That Uganda looks forward to working with the new US Administration
under President Obama, to further strengthen the good working
relations between our two countries, as well as on regional and
international Peace and Security.

That Uganda wishes President-elect Barack Obama and family good
health during his tenure as President of the United States of
America.
