ENRICHMENT AND REPROCESSING TRANSFERS, SUGGESTS EU
CONSULTATION

REF: SECSTATE 115509

Portuguese MFA Deputy Director for Disarmament and Security
Joao Lago stressed that Portugal shares U.S. concerns about
enrichment and reprocessing (ENR) as outlined in reftel
points. He added that Portugal would be willing to support
an NSG amendment to the current technology transfer regime
and would welcome French leadership on behalf of EU nations
within NSG. Portugal takes note of our request and will
follow up through both European Union and NSG channels.
