SUBJECT: CZECHS SUPPORT SLOW GROWTH IN UN BUDGET
REF: STATE 168902
(SBU) Pol-Econ Counselor delivered reftel demarche to Czech
MFA UN Department Director Jan Michal on December 20. Michal
indicates that the GOCR is "not enthusiastic" about the
budgetary growth forecast in the 2008-09 UN budget, and
believes that this concern is shared to varying degrees among
EU members. Michal described the Czech position as close to
Germany. On the other hand, Michel thought that UN politics
offered little room for negotiations on the budget, and was
not optimistic of success. He appreciated receiving the two
USG proposals for compromise and promised to coordinate with
the Czech UN Mission.
