(SBU) Embassy Singapore has carefully considered the offer in
reftel to be included in the commemoration of the
circumnavigation of the globe by the "Great White Fleet," and
has decided to decline. While the GOS welcomes the regional
projection of U.S. power, Singapore already hosts a high
volume of U.S. ship visits, which the GOS does not usually
publicize, given potential regional sensitivities. The GOS
downplays in public the scope of our military presence in
Singapore and our extensive access to military facilities
here.
