PolOff delivered ref b demarche to Sri Lankan Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Deputy Director for UN and Multilateral
Affairs Satya Rodrigo on August 3. Rodrigo undertook to
examine the list of candidates for CAT and convey back Sri
Lanka's views on US candidate Felice Gaer. On September 10,
Poloff followed up with Rodrigo. Rodrigo noted that Gaer was
well-qualified and commented that he could see no reason that
Sri Lanka would be unable to support Gaer. However, he said
he was not yet in a position to give a firm commitment on
behalf of his Ministry.
