1. On the morning of December 28, UN Chief Political Advisor Bashua
Abeyedun spoke to Pol/Econ Counselor fromEl Fasher, Darfur, and
advised that 36 UN police advisors and military staff officers had
arrived. This represents the first group of UN advisors to be
dispatched toward the planned total of 105 provided for in Phase I,
the "light package," of the UN/African Union peacekeeping effort in
Darfur.

2. Abeyedun noted that UN Deputy Special Representative Manuel Da
Silva had presented the delegation to AU Force Commander Major
General Aprezi in a formal ceremony the same morning.
