Secretary for Multilateral Affairs Maduwedegera via
SIPDIS
diplomatic note on November 6 and followed up in person on
November 7. Maduwedegera confirmed that Sri Lanka will
support Michael Matheson for re-election to the International
Law Commission (ILC). He also requested U.S. support for Sri
Lanka's candidate for an Asian seat on the ILC, MFA legal
advisor Dr. Rohan Perera. Pol Chief replied that we could
not make any commitment to support Dr. Perera, but that we
were familiar with his work and reputation, and we would
forward the request for support to Washington for further
