1. (SBU) Acting Political Counselor met September 7 with
Department of Foreign of Affairs Assistant Secretary for UN
and International Organization Affairs Aladin Villacorte to
underscore U.S. willingness to work closely with the GRP to
ensure the full implementation of UN Security Resolution
1695, noting that the United States wanted to consult with
the Philippines before reaching out to all UN member states.
Villacorte welcomed the approach, saying the Philippines
hoped the North Korean crisis could be resolved through
diplomacy and dialogue. He said he would offer more
substantive comments once his staff had studied the
resolution text in detail.
