Moving in the Right Direction and Looking Forward to Teretonga
TOTAL Lubricants Nissan Altima driver Nick Ross feels very positive with how their campaign is going after the fourth round of the NZ Touring Cars held at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park this weekend at Ruapuna, Christchurch.
"Overall we had a good weekend and are moving in the right direction with the new wing helping us gain more speed from the car." said Ross.
This weekend was the first of two rounds held in the South Island for the inaugural season of the NZ Touring Cars with the field heading to Invercargill's Teretonga Park next weekend for round five in the seven round championship.
Ross' best result of the weekend was in race two on Sunday morning where the driver from Cambridge narrowly missed out on a podium opportunity when the pace car was deployed while he was catching Auckland driver Angus Fogg.
"We got pushed back at the start of the race but managed to pull back a couple of places and a couple of others dropped off. I was catching Foggy before the pace car came out but there was a TL car between us at the restart and he managed to get a gap on me." said Ross.
Ross took seventh place in both race one on Saturday afternoon and the longer race three Sunday afternoon which also included a pit stop which became somewhat controversial this time around when an incident triggered a safety car at the start of the pit stop window.
"Unfortunately there was a bit of confusion over whether the pits were open or not when the pace car was deployed and we ended up on the tail end of the other cars but still managed to make up some places before the end of the race." said Ross.
With a new wing, suspension improvements and the team continuing to improve the performance of the Nissan Altima, Nick Ross is looking stronger as the season progresses with a move up into seventh place in the NZ Touring Cars Championship.
"All in all we are happy with the extra pace we have, we still have a little bit more to find but we are working on it and the gaps are getting smaller. We're looking forward to next week at Teretonga and building on the improved performance we had this weekend and further improving our standing." he said.
The fifth round of the NZ Touring Cars is held at Invercargill's Teretonga Park on January 23-24.
