Youth sports gets boost from Lake Taupo Charitable Trust
Youth sports programmes get a big boost from
100% Lake Taupo Charitable Trust
The Trustees of the 100% Lake Taupo Charitable Trust recently issued $15,000 of grants to 19 local groups and organisations.
The Trust, formerly known as King of the Ring Trust, have been steadily building reserve funds with the intent of making regular grant allocations to well deserving local groups.
“We received 36 applications seeking a total of $84,310.46 in our March grant round,” said Trust Chairman, David Steele. “We only had $15,000 to distribute so the Trustees had some serious deliberations when we met to consider the applications.”
“We received a number of grants for sports groups seeking funding support for their junior programmes,” said David. “Twelve of the grants have gone to groups or organisations that work with young people and encourage them to participate in sport or outdoor activities, from mountain biking to squash and just about every code in between. Collectively, these groups are working with more than 3,000 children and youth across the Taupō district so we’re thrilled to be able to directly support so many.”
“We were also pleased to make a number of grants to various social services groups who deliver outstanding services into our community,” said David.
The grant recipients gathered at DPA Ltd in Taupo last week to receive their cheques and meet the other beneficiaries. In addition to these grants, Taupo Golf Club received their cheque of $5,000 for their junior golf programme, as the elected recipient charity from the Harcourts Taupō Ice Rink.
