2013 Finn Gold Cup Gets Underway Featuring Three Kiwis

The 2013 Finn Gold Cup is underway in Tallin, Estonia where three New Zealand sailors are among the 86-strong fleet vying for the Finn World title; after a light wind postponement two races were sailed in 5-8 knot breeze

25 year Matt Coutts from the Murrays Bay Sailing Club made a strong start in the very light conditions sailing away with a 4th and a 7th to sit 3rd overall after day one of the six day regatta. 

Two British Finn sailors Andrew Mills and Ed Wright hold first and second on the leader-board with nine and ten points respectively. Coutts is just one point back on eleven.  

Bronze medallist at the recent Finn European Championships, Andrew Murdoch (Kerikeri Cruising Club) placed 35th and 21st in today’s two races to hold 26th overall.

Josh Junior (Worser Bay Boating Club) is in 37th after finishing 33rd and 38th on the water today.

Racing runs for six days from Monday 26th – Saturday 31st August when the medals and the Finn World title for 2013 will be decided.

New Zealand to host the 2015 Finn Gold Cup: In the lead-up to racing in Estonia it was confirmed by the International Finn Class Association that Takapuna Boating Club on Auckland’s North Shore will host the 2015 Finn Gold Cup.
