Cunningham Happy to Make the Finish
After a tough season, Clint Cunningham was just happy to make the finish in difficult conditions at Rally of the North,
based out of Paihia over the weekend.
Contesting his seventh event of a busy 2013 rally schedule, Cunningham and co-driver Greg Ruka looking for their first
trouble free run of the season less than a week after coming off the road at Rally Canterbury.
Things looked bad early when a recurrence of demisting problems hampered the RCK Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4 in the early
stages, but with an otherwise trouble free morning behind him, Cunningham’s confidence grew in difficult afternoon
conditions.
By the end of the day, Cunningham was recording top ten stage times and recorded a solid 12th position overall, moving
up from 16th at the halfway point.
“It was a really important result for me and my confidence,” said Cunningham. “We really needed to turn our luck around
this season and to have the car run well all day is really good. Now we just need to continue the trouble free run!”
Cunningham and the RCK Contractors Rally Team now turn their attention to the 10th anniversary Possum Bourne Memorial
Rally in just three weeks time.
The event sees Cunningham have plenty to play for as a round of both the New Zealand Rally Championship and Rally Xtreme
series. Cunningham currently sits fourth in the Xtreme XT1 class, within catching distance of a second consecutive class
podium, while he holds a similar place in the NZRC Rookie standings.
