Full Moons for Holder at Canterbury Rally
Young Mt Maunganui based rally driver David Holder notched up yet another successful outing at the Stadium Cars Rally of Canterbury. Holder produced a strong drive to bring the teams Stella Pumps & Stadium Finance backed Ford Fiesta home third, in what was also the fourth round of the Brian Green Property Group National Rally Championship held over the weekend.
“Third is a great result for us in the older spec Fiesta (rally car), but to be honest it’s also a little disappointing. I was really aiming to bring home a gold medal this time. We won a stage and were mixing it up with the top two on other stages, but unfortunately we just seemed to get punished with a big time loss on a couple of uphill stages” states Holder.
Looking at the positives of the weekend, Holder is pleased how rookie co-driver Josh Theobald is starting to get a handle on the rigours of National Championship Rallying, after only two full rallies together.
“I think Josh is slowly getting used to the fact that his side of the car is consistently being exposed to higher risks. I’m pretty sure all he could see out the front windscreen was gorse and scrub on a few of the tight forestry stages, I’ve got no problem sticking him deep into them” joked Holder.
The rally was an important event for the team being based in Christchurch, home of the team’s main sponsors and supporters.
“We had a huge amount of support out on the stages, with several staff from both Stella Pumps and Stadium Finance taking the time to join the team for the day” states Holder
“Although some of our fans choose a very unique way of showing their support, on one stage we came flying over the finish line flat out, only to be promptly greeted by four bare bottoms staring us in the face from the roadside. The group of supporters, who were also clearly identifiable as males from my viewing position, were sporting big grins too” laughed Holder.
The team now looks ahead to their next event, the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally which is having its 10th Anniversary. Keep up to date with all the latest team news at www.holderbrothersracing.com.
