Campbell looks forward to new challenge
Tauranga’s Phil Campbell will face a new challenge when round four of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally
Championship, Rally Canterbury, runs this weekend.
For both Campbell and co-driver Venita Fabbro, Canterbury represents an event they have never contested before, but are
looking forward to the opportunity to contest another new event.
After the opening three rounds of the series, Campbell holds a slim seven point lead in what has been a close fought
battle with rival Josh Marston, the pair swapping stage wins and the rally lead across each rally.
Driving the Letts Construction Ford Fiesta R2, Campbell knows the importance of a strong result in his hunt for a first
championship title, but is also aware of the challenge of beating Marston on what is his rival’s home event.
“I’m really looking forward to Canterbury, it’s always good to do another new event,” says Campbell. “Another win here
will put us in a really strong position for the championship with only two rounds remaining, but it will be tough to
compete with Josh on his home turf, so we are going to have to push extra hard.
The Stadium Cars/VINZ Rally Canterbury kicks off with a ceremonial start on Saturday at The Palms in Christchurch from
3pm with the high-speed action starting from Rangiora at 7am the following day. Crews will contest nine high-speed
special stages covering a total of 143 kilometres before returning to The Palms for the finish just after 4.30pm.
