Rangi Ruru Road Racers Reap Rewards

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School further cemented their position as current Regional and National title-holders after a blistering effort at the Canterbury SS Road Race last Thursday in Hagley Park.

Thirty-six runners from Rangi Ruru took part in the competition with 8 girls running in each of the 4 sections: U14, Junior, U16, U19.

Rangi’s U19 team was outstanding, winning their grade, with Rangi’s top six runners finishing 1st,2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th.

Rosa Flanagan ran the race out front on her own and finished 200-300m ahead of Gabby Gray who came in 2nd.  Lucy Allison, Charlotte Hand, Annie Vincent and Kate Macdonald filled the other top 10 spots.

The U16 team placed 2nd overall, with Abby Williamson the overall winner of the grade, and Rose Marshall Lee, Jacqui Frizelle, Jemima Allison and Laura Grigg all finishing in the top twenty-five places.

All U14 and Junior runners gave it their very best in their respective races with Margo Willis the top placed runner finishing in 9th place in the Junior Girls race.  With Margo’s placing and that of the next three Rangi girls, the Junior team finished in a creditable 5th place.

Rangi Ruru’s Director of Sport, Jo Fogarty says it was an outstanding display of running prowess from the strong Rangi contingent.

“All things remaining as they are, these results auger well for the Senior team at both the Canterbury and National Cross Country Championships coming up over the next month,” she says
