TeamVodafone joins the Penguin March to take on Melbourne
7th September, 2011.
Question: What’s got wings but can’t fly, and a powerful body designed for maximum downforce?
Answer: A penguin AND a TeamVodafone V8 Supercar!
TeamVodafone is taking its popular ‘You versus TeamVodafone’ promotion to the next level ahead of the L&H 500 enduro with the introduction of the Penguin Suit Slalom on Wednesday the 14th of September.
A lucky local identity, nominated and voted upon at www.raceteamvodafone.com.au, will don a giant penguin suit and face off against Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup who will also be dressed head-to-toe in costume.
The trio will race through a variety of obstacles to determine a winner.
TeamVodafone’s Penguin Suit Slalom event will allow the public to get up close and personal with the team and enjoy a free breakfast with fellow motorsport fans.
Nominations open on www.raceteamvodafone.com.au from Wednesday September 5.
2010 L&H 500 victor alongside Mark Skaife, Craig Lowndes said he was looking forward to the upcoming fan challenge.
“Vodafone have come up with some wacky and wonderful activations over the year’s and this will be right up there with one of the greats,” said Lowndes.
“It’s something for fans to enjoy and laugh about for years to come, I’m really excited about it.”
Jamie Whincup said the event would help to break the ice before the team got down to business at the first enduro of the year.
“I can honestly say I never thought I’d ever be dressed up as a penguin but it’s all a part of the fun and I’m looking forward to having a good laugh on the day,” said Whincup.
“There’s nothing better than getting amongst the fans and doing something light-hearted before such a serious weekend.”
Following the You VS.TeamVodafone challenge, the defending 500km race champions will knuckle down and prepare for the crucial race.
A test day completed on Monday saw Mark Skaife and Andrew Thompson on-hand to fine-tune driver change procedures and prepare for any number of scenarios the race could present.
Skaife will race alongside Lowndes once more, with Thompson making his enduro debut with Whincup in a car he is already very familiar with.
