Good result for Waikato University at Uni Snow Games

Good result for Waikato University at Uni Snow Games

September 2, 2011 - Natalie Good has certainly lived up to her surname in this week’s Uni Snow Games.

The talented snowboarder has taken two freestyle titles this week, winning the Slopestyle on Thursday and today’s (Friday September 2) Skull Candy-sponsored Big Air at Treble Cone, comfortably.

With experience like hers it is little wonder the Waikato University law student has dominated the two events she has entered at this year’s Uni Snow Games.

Good, 20, represented New Zealand at the World University Winter Games in China in 2009, before spending 15 months in Canada where she carved up local competition to win the Telus Park Rider Series and the Showcase King of the Rail Slopestyle competition, both in Whistler.

She has also been competing in the New Zealand Big Air Series, in events in Auckland and Methven.

She has continued her form at this week’s Uni Snow Games, attracting much attention from fellow students and competitors with her 360s and impressive array of tricks in the Slopestyle and Big Air competitions.

“I love freestyle, it’s just really fun getting to play around on the massive jumps,” she said.

“It is definitely scary, but that’s the fun of it – it’s a challenge.”

Good’s tricks on today’s Skull Candy-sponsored Big Air in the Treble Cone terrain park earned the praise of the judges , who labelled her as having the “best style”, as well as taking out the overall points for the female snowboarders.

While she admits her studies have put a slight hold on her competitive snowboarding, she has her eyes firmly set on the next World University Winter Games being held in Slovenia in 2013 and, with form like hers, it seems she is on the right track to be there.

Good is not only a talent on the slopes – her all round athletic and academic skills led to her being awarded a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship at Waikato University.

This week’s Uni Snow Games have seen more than 90 students compete in a variety of events, including Giant Slalom, Half Pipe, Slopestyle, Big Air and Gravity Cross.

The Games will conclude tomorrow (Saturday September 3) with the Cross Country at Snow Farm.
