Auckland Cricket—Neesham to move to Otago
31 August 2011
Young all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has decided to play his cricket in the Otago region this summer in the hope of getting more regular game time.
Neesham was part of the Aces title winning one day and twenty20 teams last season and is in the Aces 20 man squad for the Champions League in India. Although he is not in the travelling squad of 15 his services could still be called upon as a non-travelling reserve.
On the back of a couple of hugely successful seasons at U19 level for Auckland Neesham was an Aces contracted player for the 2010/11 season, but ended up playing only a handful of games. He missed out on one of the Aces 12 domestic contracts for the upcoming season as a number of BLACKCAPS coming back onto Auckland contracts made life extremely difficult for the selection panel.
Aces coach Paul Strang commented, "We're disappointed to lose a leading young player like Jimmy from our High Performance programme but we realise that a successful Aces squad will not be able to cater for the large number of quality players available. So we wish Jimmy all the best in trying to gain some invaluable first team experience elsewhere."
