North Harbour Junior Tennis Success
Tennis North Harbour’s junior development programme, run by Geoff Simpson, has seen local juniors perform outstandingly in the regional tournaments held in the school holidays. Six players, mostly from the Tennis North Harbour Academy, have raised trophies.
Winners at the Coca Cola Auckland Tournament include William Richardson (Campbell’s Bay Tennis Club) in the Under 10 Boys Singles and Olivia Isbey (Milford Tennis Club) in the Under 14 Girls Singles.
The following week Hamish Duff (Becroft Tennis Club) took out the Under 14 Boys Singles Title at the Bay Of Plenty Open.
Lillie Reid-Hunt (Takapuna Tennis Club) was half of the winning Under 18 Girls Doubles combination at the Waikato Junior Open. Her success was emulated by Christine Vos (Mairangi Bay Tennis Club) when she took out the Under 14 Girls Singles Title, defeating her clubmate and fellow academy member, Carli Davis.
There was further success at the Counties Junior Open held over Labour Weekend. Sam Poulter (Takapuna Tennis Club) and James Corfeild (Becroft Tennis Club) won the Under 14 Boys Doubles. Harbour players featured in three other finals- Jason Hart (Mairangi Bay Tennis Club) and Sion Wiggin (Milford Tennis Club) were in the Boys Under12 Doubles Final and Aidin McDougall ( Brown's Bay Tennis Club) who although only 13 years old, made the Under 16 Singles Final. William Richardson added to his earlier success by making the final of Boys Under 12 Singles.
Another member of the TNH Academy, Briar Preston (Mairangi Bay Tennis Club) has just returned from Spain where she was involved in the Head Junior Elite Cup.
