800 Women Expected At Annual Triathlon

800 Women Expected At Annual Triathlon

Entries are flowing in for the annual Bendon Women's Triathlon, with more than last year's total already signed up.

With just over 500 entries confirmed, it is estimated around 800 women will complete the 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run or walk. Fifty per cent of them will be first timers.

The event starts at 9am on Monday, January 31, from Pilot Bay. Roads from there to the end of Marine Parade will be closed for the cycle course.

Entries have come from all over the North Island with ages spanning from 13 years to women over 60.

Participants are urged to register and collect race packs at the car park behind Temptations at Mt Maunganui, on Sunday, January 30, between 1pm and 4pm, as queues are expected to be long on event day. There is a bonus of a $100 prize for those who do.

A final free training session with Triathlon Tauranga will be held tonight (Wednesday, January 26), starting at 5.30pm from Salisbury Wharf.

Anyone taking part in the Bendon may take part in the training, which will be a trial of the complete course.
