The world's only female-led live science show - Nanogirl Live! - is touring New Zealand for the third year running. This
year, the Nanogirl team will present a brand new show - “Out of This World”. Join Nanogirl, Boris and CLAIR as they
explore the science of space - featuring all new experiments and explosions, Out of This World really shows science and
engineering as you’ve never seen them before.
“Out of this World” will amaze and delight audiences, exploring the remarkable things that can happen when engineering
and science come together with some imagination and curiosity. Rocket jet-packs, amazing stunts, and even a real live
tornado - and of course, lots of explosions!
This year’s tour will bring the Nanogirl Live! science theatre performance to 11 centres, travelling across New Zealand

“Making science and engineering accessible and fun is so important to us - having toured around the world this year it's
so great to be bringing our educational shows back home” says Dr. Michelle Dickinson, Nanogirl Labs’ Co-Founder and
creator of Nanogirl. Michelle will be playing the role of Nanogirl on stage throughout this tour.
The Nanogirl team believes that science is for everyone, and with the help of the project’s sponsors - Meridian Energy,
The MacDiarmid Institute, The University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering, and Engineering New Zealand - every ticket
for this tour has been priced affordably, with ticket prices ranging from $15 to $40 (The promotional code ‘SCIENCE4ALL’
must be used when purchasing to access the $15 accessibly priced tickets).
Last year, we launched our “Pay-It-Forward” programme, an initiative recognising that for some, live theatre experiences
- however reasonably priced - just do not fit within the family budget. Through the generous support of our audience
members and local community groups, over 1,000 “Pay-It-Forward” tickets were gifted to families, communities, and
schools that would otherwise not have had the chance to attend a show. With the success of the programme in 2017, we are
thrilled to be implementing this initiative again this year.
Research completed with the University of Auckland has shown that the Nanogirl live theatre show can have a
life-changing impact on young people, exciting and inspiring them in the critical fields of science and engineering. The
gift of a Pay-It-Forward ticket could make a huge difference in someone’s life.
Co-Founder & CEO of Nanogirl Labs, Joe Davis, says “The support from our community last year saw more than 1000 young New Zealanders
attend our live science show who wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance. We know from research just how impactful that
gift can be - it has the potential to be genuinely life-changing - and we’re thrilled to be running the programme again
this year.”
Alongside the theatrical performance schedule, the Nanogirl team will be visiting schools in each centre to engage with
students and teachers through a partnership with The MacDiarmid Institute, demonstrating exciting experiments and
providing teachers with lesson plans and curriculum material to support the delivery of science lessons in schools.
