Support Women in STEM by buying an experience
If you’ve ever wanted to do kitchen science with Nanogirl Michelle Dickinson, talk microbiology with Dr Siouxsie Wiles,
go bug hunting with the Bug Man Ruud Kleinpaste, hang out on the set of TVNZ Breakfast with Jack Tame, or tour a
scientific research vessel, now’s your chance.
The Association for Women in the Sciences (AWIS) is running a series of TradeMe auctions offering these experiences as
part of its fundraising efforts.
The TradeMe auctions will all end on the evening of 11 October, coinciding with the culmination of the hunt for the AWIS
National Quiz Champion, a simultaneous quiz night at five venues nationwide.
AWIS is hoping to raise $30,000 to fund its Women in STEM scholarship until 2022. The scholarship, managed by the New
Horizons for Women Trust, supports women studying science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) subjects at tertiary
level, particularly those whose social identity is under-represented in their field of study.
