Fine weekend for most but cold start to next week
As the short working week comes to an end, the weather brings more good news for everyone. Fine weather is expected for
most today and into tomorrow. The North Island is looking mainly fine again on Saturday with a few showers expected with
the passage of a front for southern and eastern areas. The South Island however is a little more wet, as that weak front
affects the west and the south tomorrow. By the end of Saturday, it will be looking mainly fine as well before another
front is expected to affect the west coast and the far south again on Sunday.
“Tomorrow is looking good for the North Island, with temperatures mainly around the low to mid 20C range,” explained
meteorologist Kyle Lee. “But in saying that we are expecting a cold front to affect the South Island, with a Heavy Rain
Watch out for Fiordland which could also see thunderstorms as well,” he said.
That weak cold front will bring some isolated showers to parts of the southern North Island on Saturday.
“Wellington will see a few showers on Saturday, but that is expected to clear in the afternoon, so just a heads up if
you are heading to Homegrown early to remember a raincoat,” said Lee.
After the passage of the front on Saturday, the weather will be improving for the country before another cold front is
expected for the South Island on Sunday. This cold front will bring some strong winds and colder temperatures with snow
about the higher ground, potentially lowering even further for a time on Tuesday. The blustery cold start to the week
will be a bit of a change to the relatively mild Autumn we’ve had so far.
