Mixed weather for the week ahead - 5 March 2018
The weather for this week appears unsettled, with a mixed bag across New Zealand. Most of the country can expect showers
at some point, with temperatures taking a dip as the week progresses.
MetService Meteorologist Hannah Moes said, “Several frontal features bring rain and showers to much of the South Island
to start the week, then a ridge of high pressure builds in with more settled conditions for the south from mid-week.”
“However, the North Island remains under the current muggy, unstable airmass for another two days, with a risk for
thunderstorms for some inland areas today and Tuesday,” Moes continued. “We finally see the cooler change spread across
the North Island on Wednesday, but is unfortunately brought in by a complex trough, meaning there is plenty of rain in
the outlook for the North Island mid to late week. Heavy falls are possible for some areas of the North Island in the
latter part of the week, in particular the eastern regions of Gisborne and Hawkes Bay, but at this early stage the
details are difficult to pin down.“
