Lingering Feeling of Summer
A mild weekend is ahead for many Kiwis with northeasterly winds over the country bringing cloudy, warm and humid conditions, as well as some wet weather in northern and southwestern places.
MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said, “A blocking high stationed east of the country is helping to ward off any low-pressure systems, and as a result New Zealand will experience northeasterly winds and warm, humid air.”
“With overnight minimum temperatures currently in the high-teens, the northeast flow will keep the temperatures at night warm and uncomfortable for many of us”, commented McInnes.
Unfortunately, the promise of this blocking high and warm humid conditions doesn’t mean we’re in for sunny skies. “There will be persistent cloud for some of us throughout the weekend and further rain to southern and western places in the South Island. Northern areas in the North Island can also expect some isolated showers” McInnes went on to say.
It’s a busy weekend ahead with many events around the country, so keep up to date with the latest forecasts on our website. Round the Bays in Auckland, is set for warm, humid conditions, with a possible shower; something for runners to bear in mind. Further south, conditions are looking favourable for the Taupō Ironman and the Black Caps in Wellington, with fine weather in store for Saturday.
“While it’s a mixed forecast across the country this weekend,” McInnes commented, “the overall outlook is for a relatively mild but good weekend ahead for most.”
