All New Nanogirl Live Science & Engineering Show
New Zealand Tour 2017 - Tickets on Sale Now
Last year’s Nanogirl Live! Tour of New Zealand brought science, technology and engineering to more than 20,000 young New
Zealanders and their families. This year’s tour will visit almost twice the number of centres, travelling right across
New Zealand through November and December. With all new experiments and explosions, this really is science and
engineering as you’ve never seen it before.
This year’s show - “Engineering Magic” - will amaze and delight audiences, exploring the remarkable things that can
happen when engineering and science come together with imagination. Huge flames, incredible stunts, a real-life bed of
nails - and of course, lots of explosions!
“We’re recently back from an international tour - it’s great to be home, and we’re incredibly excited to be bringing
Nanogirl Live! to audiences across New Zealand once again this year. This is a brilliant new show - explosive,
entertaining and educational all at the same time - we can’t wait to share it!”, says Dr. Michelle Dickinson, Nanogirl
Labs’ Co-Founder and creator of Nanogirl. Michelle will be playing the role of Nanogirl on stage throughout this tour.
The Nanogirl team believes that science is for everyone, and with the help of the project’s sponsors - Spark New
Zealand, The MacDiarmid Institute, and the University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering - every ticket for this tour
has been priced affordably, with ticket prices ranging from $15 to $40 (The promotional code ‘SCIENCE4ALL’ must be used
when purchasing to access the $15 accessibly priced tickets).
Nanogirl Labs recognises that, for some, live theatre experiences - however reasonably priced - just do not fit within
the family budget. Again driven by the belief that science is for everyone, this tour sees the launch of Nanogirl Labs’
“Pay-It-Forward” programme. As well as buying tickets for themselves, audience members can purchase ‘Pay-It-Forward’
tickets, in effect buying a ticket for someone who would otherwise not have the chance to attend. Nanogirl Labs will
work with organisations in each centre on the tour to distribute these tickets.
Research completed with the University of Auckland has shown that the Nanogirl live theatre show can have a
life-changing impact on young people, exciting and inspiring them in the critical fields of science and engineering. The
gift of a Pay-It-Forward ticket could make a huge difference in someone’s life.
Co-Founder & Managing Director of Nanogirl Labs, Joe Davis, says “We’re constantly working to innovate - to find new approaches to
inspire, educate and empower as many people as possible in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This year
we’ll visit many more centres than we could reach in 2016 - we’re also incredibly excited to be launching
‘Pay-It-Forward’, an approach that we hope will create opportunity for those who may not otherwise have been able to
attend to experience this great educational event.”
Alongside the theatrical performance schedule, the Nanogirl team will be visiting schools in each centre to engage with
students and teachers through a partnership with The MacDiarmid Institute, demonstrating exciting experiments and
providing teachers with lesson plans and curriculum material to support the delivery of science lessons in schools.
