New Zealand-Grown Nanogirl Show a Hit in Singapore
The New Zealand-made ‘Nanogirl Live!’ science show, created by Nanogirl Labs, was staged in Singapore last week as the
flagship event of the Singapore Science Festival 2017.
Hosted by Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore, the Kiwi-grown science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programme was great success with
Singaporean students.
The Nanogirl Labs team engaged more than 3000 students and their families, working both within the Science Centre and in
schools across Singapore. The science and engineering programmes involved a series of live, theatrical shows, along with
hands-on workshops, led by Nanogirl Labs Co-Founder Dr. Michelle Dickinson MNZM.
“We design our programmes with diversity in mind and were able to measure an actual change in the way people think about
science and engineering after engaging with us. Building strong foundations now will help us to plan for a technology
and innovation based future both here at home and around the world.” says Dr Dickinson.
“Our research showed that the Nanogirl programmes made a positive impact in building confidence and increasing
engagement with science and technology in Singapore. With 94% of our participants wanting to do more science and
engineering after we left, we were proud to leave behind our New Zealand grown education platform to grow roots in a new
market”

a genuine, positive impact in other countries, and of course to be bringing lessons learnt in those countries home to
New Zealand.”

see first-hand how they approach the challenges of preparing their future leaders to succeed in a tech-driven economy.”
The Nanogirl Live! programme will be touring New Zealand in November and December this year, and negotiations are
currently underway for several new international engagements.
