HUAWEI debuts the HUAWEI P10 Series: World’s first smartphone with Te Reo Māori language Operating System
Most advanced P Series to date, a stunning blend of technology, culture and design
Auckland – 5 April, 2017 – Leading consumer electronics company HUAWEI has today unveiled its most sophisticated P Series flagship smartphones to
date: The HUAWEI P10 and HUAWEI P10 Plus, which are the world’s first smartphones to offer Te ReoMāori as a standardised
language option.
The P10 Series offer the first and only vendor developed Māori language operation system worldwide. Users can choose
whether to use their device entirely in Te Reo Māori, or utilise a dual English and Te Reo Māori keyboard.
HUAWEI worked alongside Māori leaders, including professionals at Auckland University of Technology, to create the
exclusive language offering, which will be available as a standard language option on selected HUAWEI devices supplied
new in New Zealand*.
The announcement follows news that the innovative consumer electronics company will invest up to $400m in New Zealand
over the next five years. Huawei has plans to work with local partners to build a New Zealand Cloud Data Centre, open an
Innovation Lab in both Christchurch and the Victoria University of Wellington this year, and extend the Future
University Student Programme to 100 ICT students.
“New Zealand is an important market for HUAWEI and we want to continue to build and nurture a strong relationship here,”
says Roson Luo,General Manager Consumer Business Group HUAWEI New Zealand. “Our business approach is to create
partnerships and offer more than just products. We strive for innovation and recognise and appreciate New Zealand’s
culture, so are proud to be able to offer the world’s first smartphone capable of Te Reo.”
The Te Reo Māori language offering is not the only world-first for the HUAWEI P10 Series handsets, which combine sleek,
modern design that sets a new industry benchmark of style and craftsmanship with the latest technology to ensure
unrivalled user experience, making it an expertly designed smartphone for savvy consumers.
HUAWEI has collaborated with premium international camera company Leica to offer the world’s first 8-megapixel Leica
Front Camera and make every photo a cover shot. The revolutionary new camera uses smart portrait features specifically
tailored for capturing exceptional selfies, and automatically switches to wide-angle mode if multiple people are in the
shot. A 12 + 20-megapixel Leica Dual-Back Camera offers portrait enhancement features that use precise 3D facial
detection technology, dynamic illumination, studio-like re-lighting and beautifying effects that result in radiant,
flattering self-portraits, with the P10 Plus offeringLeica Dual-Camera 2.0 Pro Edition to capture sharp close-ups, quick
action shots and more light in low-light conditions. A new natural bokeh camera effect creates sharp, vivid colours in
the foreground of images, while the background remains elegantly blurred.
HUAWEI SuperCharge technology and larger batteries makes charge time faster and battery life longer than ever before and
with support for 4.5G networks, connection is quick and stable even when signal coverage weakens. A fingerprint sensor
on the phone’s front replaces the navigation bar, resulting in a beautiful uninterrupted screen that uses unique
technology to lessens the risk of screen cracks by up to 80 per cent. And on the rare occasion that the screen does
crack, HUAWEI looks after its customers with a complimentary three-month screen replacement guarantee.
The P10 Series is available in a sophisticated, design-led colour palette created in the first cross-industry
collaboration with the world’s most prestigious colour authority, the Pantone Color Institute. Dazzling Blue and
Dazzling Gold are available in an industry-first Hyper Diamond-Cut finish - a high quality crafted metal that offers a
subtle reflective look and repels fingerprint marks, adding to the P10 Series’ contemporary aesthetic. Both will be
available to purchase in New Zealand alongside Prestige Gold and Graphite Black. Other colours in the range not
currently available in New Zealand including Greenery, Rose Gold, and Mystic Silver with a sandblast finish, and Ceramic
White in gloss finish.
“As culture and technology continue to intersect in every aspect of our world, we want to deliver new products and
experiences that ultimately improve and enhance life,” continues Roson Luo. “The new HUAWEI P10 and HUAWEI P10 Plus
weave together the exceptional imaging capabilities of Leica and our stand-out design and hardware innovations to bring
users a powerful device experience.”
Iconic New Zealand fashion label Zambesi partnered with HUAWEI to celebrate the launch of the P10 Series, by creating a
bespoke collection inspired by the P10’s colour palette. Both the P10 Series and Zambesi collection were revealed to
media and special guests this week and will be on display in Zambesi’s Auckland and Wellington stores from Wednesday 12
April 2017.
