International brain injury expert to present in Christchurch


Dr Nathan Zasler will present ‘Current Concepts in Brain Injury Update 2015’ at a seminar and workshop in Christchurch on 9 and 10 March 2015.

The event is organised by Laura Fergusson Trust Canterbury and will be of interest to primary, secondary and tertiary clinicians working in the brain injury field, acute to community care, allied health staff and registered nurses. Non-government providers of brain injury rehabilitation, community rehabilitation specialists, staff working within District Health Boards and needs assessment or case management teams will also get value from the seminar and follow-up workshop.

Dr. Nathan Zasler is an internationally respected physician specialist in acquired brain injury (ABI) care and rehabilitation. He is CEO and Medical Director for Concussion Care Centre of Virginia, Ltd., as well as CEO and Medical Director for Tree of Life Services, Inc. Dr. Zasler is an affiliate professor at the VCU Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Richmond, VA, and an adjunct associate professor for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Virginia. Dr. Zasler has published and lectured extensively on TBI related neuromedical issues. He has edited six textbooks including “Rehabilitation of Post-Concussive Disorders,” “ and “Brain Injury Medicine: Principles and Practice”, Editions 1 and 2, and is co-editor of two peer reviewed international scientific journals: “Brain Injury” and “NeuroRehabilitation.”

Dr Zasler’s seminar will cover:
· Post-concussive disorders: facts, fallacies and foibles
· Psychopharmacology for neurobehavioral dysfunction after TBI
· Prognostication after TBI: Crystal ball predictions or evidence-based medicine
· Neuromedical issues and driving clearance after TBI
· Post-traumatic headache assessment strategies: Practical aspects of history taking and physical assessment.
