Keep those rain jackets handy
A front followed by a complex low will bring rain or showers to many places this weekend. "It looks like a wet weekend
for many. While things start to improve in the south during Saturday, the weather really sets in over the North Island
as we head into Sunday", MetService Meteorologist Elke Louw said.
A severe weather warning for an extended period of heavy rain is in place for the ranges of Westland from midnight
Thursday until midday Saturday."As this complex low approaches, periods of heavier rain are likely over the central
parts of New Zealand on Sunday while strong northerly winds affect western parts of the North Island." Louw said. Fresh
snow is also expected for the Kaikoura and Nelson Ranges, on Sunday. Rain will begin to ease over the western parts of
the North Island on Monday.
"The place to be this weekend is down south, where a ridge of high pressure makes a welcome return, resulting in lighter
winds and settled weather. However, it isn't likely to stop some pesky areas of cloud and fog from turning up as well,"
Louw went on the say.
