Two ticks…it’s an election day weather forecast
A coalition of rain, showers and the odd fine spell is set to rule New Zealand weather on Satur-day.
NIWA forecaster Chris Brandolino says in some places the rain may even govern on its own.
However, fine weather is campaigning strongly along the east coast of New Zealand, and particularly likely to win out in Napier, Christchurch and Timaru. Meanwhile, a huge swing is expected in Wellington, when the nor-therly turns southerly.
Voters hoping to stay dry on Saturday might like to use this handy polling day weather guide:
Auckland: wettest from late morning through mid-afternoon.
Hamilton: wettest from late morning through mid-afternoon.
New Plymouth: wet weather likely most of the day.
Taupo: wettest from midday-ish and into the afternoon.
Napier: any rain likely to be spotty and light.
Tauranga: wettest from late morning through the most of the remainder of the day.
Wellington: wettest from late morning through afternoon. Northerly turns to brisk southerly during the afternoon.
Nelson: wettest from mid-morning through to mid-afternoon, perhaps favouring the morn-ing.
Christchurch: any rain that falls likely to be spotty, light and later in the day, if at all.
Timaru: wettest weather likely to occur in the afternoon.
Dunedin: showers most likely from about midday.
