Internationally recognised carboNZeroCertTM product certification backs carbon neutral claims for LEI Electronics Inc.’s Eco Alkaline battery
LEI Electronics Inc announced that their Eco Alkalines household battery range has been certified under the world
leading carboNZero product certification programme by Enviro-Mark Solutions Limited of New Zealand. This achievement
assures customers with the most robust and credible evidence that Eco Alkalines’ efforts to manage, reduce and offset
carbon emissions for their product are effective and credible.
Eco Alkalines are the world’s first battery range to achieve carboNZero product certification, demonstrating a wider
commitment to environmental responsibility.
“Every Eco Alkaline battery contains 0% cadmium lead mercury and uses recyclable packaging and PET plastic. We are
landfill conscious.” says Lionel Lalonde, VP Sales Eco Alkalines Inc. “Eco Alkalines are made with 80% recyclable
materials and are 98% recyclable, If recycling is not available and the batteries happen to be disposed of in household
rubbish they are non-toxic.”
After going through Enviro-Mark Solutions’ thorough process of measuring and assessing Eco Alkaline’s GHG emissions for
the full lifecycle, an emissions management plan and reduction targets have been developed with a range of projects
being implemented to achieve these goals.
To complete the carboNZero certification, verified carbon credits were purchased to offset the remaining GHG emissions
balance. The offsets are purchased on a quarterly basis and support verified projects such as the New Zealand Permanent
Forest Sink Initiative.

The Eco Alkaline range consists for the usual AAA, AA, C, D and 9 volt. Eco Alkaline batteries are available from
Countdown nationwide, as well as smaller stores such as ecostore, Wise Circada, Wendyl's Green Goddess shop, Harvest
Wholefoods, Commonsense Organics and Huckleberry Farms. Batteries start at RRP $4.95.
