Have your say on Solvigo insecticide

Have your say on Solvigo insecticide

29 January 2014

The Environmental Protection Authority has received an application to allow a new insecticide, Solvigo, to be imported into New Zealand to control insect pests in onion crops. The active ingredients of Solvigo are abamectin and thiamethoxam. These active ingredients are currently used in other products that are approved for use in New Zealand. Thiamethoxam is a neonicotinoid pesticide and the potential risks to bees have been considered by the applicant.

The public are invited to give their opinion on this application to the Environmental Protection Authority. The submission period will open on Wednesday 29 January 2014 and must be received by 5 pm on Thursday 13 March 2014.

All submissions must be submitted in writing via email to submission@epa.govt.nz or mail to Private Bag 63002 Wellington 6140 New Zealand.

Submitters may also choose to present their views in person at a hearing, the date of which will be confirmed after submissions close. Questions about the submission or hearing process can be addressed to Trudy Geoghegan at: (04) 474 5563 or 0800 376 234 or trudy.geoghegan@epa.govt.nz.
