Love him or hate him, few can deny that Kim Dotcom's new MEGA service is likely to be New Zealand's largest tech start-up this year.
Building a global start-up that had millions of active users within days, from the shores of New Zealand, is quite an achievement. Come and hear about the how's and why's of MEGA, plus the events of the last 12 months, from the Mega men themselves.
Kim Dotcom will give a first-hand account of what it took to build New Zealand's biggest tech start-up of 2013 against all odds. Few would have the tenacity to build and launch a major new international business while fighting the highest profile legal case in recent NZ history.
Kim will also talk about the issues of the last 12 months, as well as the future. Plus, what's happening on the international tech stage in general and potential areas of interest or concern for New Zealand tech community.
Mathias Ortmann, MEGA's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), will also take the stage giving a technical perspective on what it took to build both MegaUpload and the new MEGA and the trials and tribulations along the way.
Mathias will talk to the technology and "under the hood" stuff that formed the foundations for MEGA as well as security in general, and why MEGA chose to launch a Bug Bounty programme.
Mathias and Kim will also talk about some of the challenges during the MEGA build and how those issues might be mitigated by other startups in NZ, before taking Q from the audience.
Kim has warned that Mathias might get all geeky, with 1's and 0's and /dev/nulls during his part of the presentation.
Includes full sit-down Breakfast from 7:30am. Speaker Begins 8:00am.
