Wellington’s “Other” Big Premier
Are we Alone? Have you ever wondered if there is life out there in the Universe? What would an alien life form look
like? And where do we start our search? Carter Observatory is delighted to announce the launch of its latest new
planetarium show, "We are Aliens!". Carter will be the first place in the Southern Hemisphere to screen this exciting new show.
"We are Aliens!" is the story of the most important journey humankind has ever undertaken, the search to discover if we are alone in the
Universe. The sequel to the award winning "We Are Astronomers", "We Are Aliens!" explores how our understanding of life on Earth guides the hunt for alien life beyond our planet.
The show is narrated by Rupert Grint, known to the world as Ron Weasley in the phenomena that is Harry Potter, and
features more wonderful music by local Wellingtonian Rhian Sheehan.
Our quest to know if we are alone in the Universe has only just begun. As our understanding of how life works continues
to grow, so does the number of planets we discover.
The show will launch on Wednesday 21 November with two showings on offer – the first at 7pm and a second showing at 8pm.
These shows will be followed by a talk by Carter’s Dr Claire Bretherton about the search for life beyond our own planet.

If you miss out on the premier, don’t despair! Carter Observatory will be screening the new show for the whole weekend
of Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November. (Plus a 10:15am screening of Tycho to the Moon, our special show for pre-schoolers on Sunday morning). From there, We are Aliens will feature in Carter’s regular planetarium programming.
Dr Claire Bretherton, Education and Public Programmes Manager says, “We are Aliens is the latest show from NSC Creative
and covers a topic of huge interest to many of our visitors. Our quest to search for life beyond Earth is key to our
understanding of our own past, present and future. We hope it will inspire our visitors to find out more”.
This new show will add an exciting addition to Carter Observatory’s planetarium show offering.
