33-year historical data of NZ atmospheric conditions is now available
To date there has been an absence of good quality, long term historical weather data to effectively characterise New Zealand’s complex environment.
To meet the needs of environmental scientists, engineers and planners, MetOcean Solutions Ltd has completed a 33-year high resolution WRF numerical hind cast of the atmospheric conditions, spanning 1979-2011 and providing data at hourly increments for any location in New Zealand.
These hind cast data have been rigorously validated against measured meteorological data. The resolution is 12 km for all NZ, and 4 km for central NZ and the Auckland / Hauraki Gulf region. Increased resolution to 1.3 km is available on request.
Applications of the data include
• Renewable energy assessments
• Climate studies
• Ocean modelling
• Catchment modelling
• Extreme value analysis
• Forensic analysis
From this extensive database we supply:
• Time series data for standard weather parameters
• Gridded fields of the same
• Statistical maps
• Analytical services (statics, extremes etc.)
• Model boundary files
MetOcean Solutions Ltd is a science-based consultancy, specialising in oceanography and meteorology.
