LAST CHANCE TO SECURE YOUR TRADEMARK DOMAIN NAME
FROM BECOMING
AN ADULT INDUSTRY .XXX
DOMAIN
A new type of domain name ending in .xxx will soon be permitted on the Internet for websites with adult content. New Zealand businesses have just four more days to file an application to ‘block’ their brand names being used globally as a .xxx domain.
Maria Brosnan Business Manager of www.freeparking.co.nz a market leader in domain name registration and web hosting services states “NZ businesses have until this Friday (28 October) to protect their trademark brand against being used globally in the Adult Industry as a .xxx domain.
Trademark holders who do not apply to protect their brand, risk their brand being used with a .xxx domain extension. “If unprotected, a member of the adult industry could set up a website using a business’ brand with a .xxx url, causing significant potential brand damage to a company.” Brosnan says.
She continues "From 8 November 2011 – 25 November 2011 a “landrush” period starts, where non-domain or trademark holders that are members of the adult community can pre-apply for names, which are then auctioned if more than one application is received. From 6 December, all unreserved .xxx domains may be purchased by the public on a first come, first served basis.”
www.freeparking.co.nz a market leader in domain name registration and web hosting can give NZ Business’ the best chance to protect their trademarked brand. This requires the completion of an on-line registration form, and a one-time, fee of $299.95 (+ GST) for each domain name you apply for. Trademark holders will need to supply confirmation of their trademark with their IPR number and Registration Date. The application is then sent to the ICM Registry (www.icmregistry.com) who makes a final determination in conjunction with the Validation Agent IPRotat Limited.
Applications close Friday 28 October at 5pm.
