NZBIO welcomes the announcement of a national health innovation hub

NZBIO welcomes the announcement of a national health innovation hub to support innovation in New Zealand’s clinical sector.

CEO Dr Michelle Sullivan stresses the importance of a strong healthcare bioscience industry, which will bring not only better health outcomes to New Zealanders but also an increased number of highly paid, highly skilled jobs to New Zealand with the accompanying downstream benefits to New Zealand society.

NZBIO strongly supports the Hub in its mission to fuel collaboration and support the commercialization of homegrown bioscience innovation. “The creation of a national health innovation hub has the potential to be a real landmark in the development of New Zealand’s healthcare bioscience sector. NZBIO is committed to working with the Innovation Hub as it develops priorities for industry growth” says Sullivan.

New Zealand’s bioeconomy is built on a century of investment in biological research. We have a long tradition of applying research to pastoral and arable farming, horticulture, forestry and human healthcare. There is a growing number of local companies whose core business is bioscience, developing novel, high-tech products and services for global markets, including the global healthcare market.
