Expansion for Meat Research Company
A purpose designed building with extended taste testing and electronics development facilities is the new home for Carne Technologies Ltd. The Cambridge based meat research company has moved to the new premises in the Aotearoa Park industrial area adjacent to the former Aotearoa Meats processing plant.
Managing director Dr Nicola Simmons says that the increased space means a greater service capability in sensory testing and electrical technologies for the meat industry.
“We now have meat science laboratory and workshop facilities that include self-contained areas for confidential client projects such as sensory testing of feedlot raised stock, different ages and breeds, taints, and so on,” says Dr Simmons.
“Specific electrical technologies such as humane stunning, carcass stimulation and immobilisation and accelerated bleeding can also be more easily modified and trialled.”
“The larger space will allow us to fast-track new technologies that we are developing, such as the Carnetech Tenderometer, and we expect to be able to make them available for industry trials soon.”
Future expansion is also provided for in the building design so that additional R & D laboratories can be added as meat industry demand grows.
