Auckland, 8th August 2011
Plant & Food Research, in association with AgMARDT, is pleased to be hosting plant pathologist Professor Dale Walters during a visit to New Zealand where he will be presenting his research on induced resistance in plants. Professor Walters, leader of the Plant Pathology Team at the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh, is a world expert on induced resistance in plants and will be a key note speaker at the NZ Plant Protection Society Symposium on “Plant Defence for Pest Control”, 8th August in Rotorua, NZ.
This symposium will look at ways in which plant defence can be used and the challenges around using it. Professor Walters will discuss how particular treatments may be used to activate resistance in plants that were previously susceptible to disease.

While in the Waikato, Professor Walters will also present a public lecture at 11 am in the McMeekan Centre entitled ”Overview of SAC, SAC Research, and the Crop and Soil Systems Research Group” where he will discuss all aspects of his department’s research activities at the Scottish Agricultural College. His visit ends on Monday 15th following a visit to Plant & Food Research (Mt Albert) in Auckland.
