Members of the media are invited to attend the inaugural NetHui 2011, a three-day gathering that will bring together all those with an interest in the Internet in New Zealand.

Date of Conference: Wednesday 29 June – Friday 1 July 2011 Venue: SkyCity, Auckland

Over 320 people have registered for NetHui, and organiser InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) is anticipating a full house of 400.

PROGRAMME NetHui is split into six roundtable discussion streams with a vast array of topics to be addressed, including cybersafety/cyberbullying, online privacy, digital literacy, human rights and the Internet, technology in education, open data & open Government, copyright & IP, the future of online content, legal implications of cloud computing, IPv6 and net neutrality. SPEAKERS Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig is the event’s international keynote speaker. Lessig is a vocal proponent of reduced restrictions on digital copyright and is one of the world's best-known champions of 'open culture'.

On the Wednesday opening day of NetHui, Xero-founder Rod Drury will deliver the opening presentation followed by AUT World Internet Project researchers Dr Jennie Billot and Philippa Smith.

Minister for Communications and IT Steven Joyce will deliver a keynote on the Thursday, following prominent business commentator Rod Oram. Radio and television broadcaster Sean Plunkett will serve as Master of Ceremonies on the Friday of the event, which includes a series of panel discussions and open mic sessions.
