AR.Drone Launches at YOOBEE

AR.Drone Launches at YOOBEE

Media Release
Friday 25th March 2011

Parrot AR.Drone, the world’s first quadricopter remotely controlled by your iPad/iPod touch or iPhone is set to launch at YOOBEE stores nationwide, starting at YOOBEE Newmarket on Friday 25th March from 5.00pm.

New Zealanders will be most familiar with MagnumMac stores, which have been rebranded as YOOBEE, a creativity-centric business committed to making stuff happen in art, design, music and programming.

AR.Drone is the next uber cool gadget that everyone wants to get their hands on, they will have the opportunity to test drive the AR.Drone at the YOOBEE launch party this coming Friday.

The real fun is controlling the AR.Drone with your iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone. Imagine you are the pilot of an aircraft that flies like a dragonfly only you can see exactly what the pilot sees through on-board cameras.

When in flight, you can get inside the cockpit using two on-board cameras, one camera on the front and one camera underneath facing the ground, the footage from which is streamed back to your iOS device.

Thanks to wi-fi technology, controlling the AR.Drone is super intuitive and user-friendly. Anyone can pilot the AR.Drone by simply moving the iPad, don’t worry, the AR.Drone’s altitude sensors will stop it from flying into space.

There is no similar product to the Parrot AR.Drone and one major advantage it offers is playing video games in augmented reality; in fact, AR.Drone opens up a whole new world to users.

One game, AR.Pursuit, is currently available for the AR.Drone, but the open source API will be lent to developers to transform the concept of what we consider a video game.

YOOBEE Newmarket will close its doors on Friday 25th March at 3.00pm; the doors will open again at 5.00pm for the special event.
